Colin Edmonds – Partner
Colin is a Partner at Howlett Clarke Solicitors and a highly experienced property lawyer, whose areas of expertise include complex freehold and leasehold property transactions. He heads the Residential Conveyancing team and is based at the Hove office, Colin advises clients on a wide range of property related issues. Colin also heads the firm's Home Information Pack team in light of new Government legislation.

Judith Tyson – Associate Solicitor

Judith is an Associate Solicitor based in the Brighton Office and is a highly respected residential conveyancing Solicitor. She has extensive experience in dealing with all aspects of residential property transactions.
She joined Capel Cure Peachey and Bates in Brighton in 1981 and then joined ACW Law on merger at the beginning of 2003. She stayed with us following our merger in late 2003. Although she qualified as a Solicitor in private practice, she joined Capel Cure having worked as a Senior Solicitor at the North Western Regional Health Authority in Manchester for nine years specialising in building contracts and residential/commercial transactions. Prior to specialising in residential property work, she has been involved in personal injury and trust and probate matters.

Tim Fenton - Partner

Tim was admitted as a solicitor in 1979 and has been a Partner since 1980. He is Head of the firm’s Commercial Department based in Brighton, which includes our Corporate, Commercial Property and Employment teams.
Tim specialises in Company merger and acquisitions, Company restructuring including advice to Shareholders on the importance of detailed Shareholders Agreements and Non-corporate business transactions. He acts for both corporate and private clients. Tim is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators (FCIArb). Tim has received appointments to act as an arbitrator both from parties and from the President of the Law Society

Bernard Yates – Consultant
Bernard is a highly respected and experienced Consultant at Howlett Clarke based at our Brighton office and was formerly senior partner.
Qualified in 1970 and has practised in Brighton since 1971. Initially a general practitioner and specialised for a number of years in commercial property taking in all aspects of commercial property conveyancing, including acquisition and disposal of industrial estates, commercial leases, acquisition and disposal of commercial related businesses, licensed premises, shops and offices.

David Stockman - Consultant

David is a Consultant at Howlett Clarke Solicitors based in the Brighton office. David has dealt with property and general commercial matters and also a small amount of private client work over a period of many years. He was a partner in a London firm and head of property department before practicing back in his home town of Hove where he ran his own practice, Stockmans, for approximately ten years. David felt that when an opening in Commercial Property Department at Howlett Clarke arose in November 2001 he felt it was a suitable time for a merger. David specialises in
Commercial and investment property and Residential Conveyancing for established clients.

Yasmin Tayob - Associate Solicitor

Yasmin joined Howlett Clarke as an Associate Solicitor in November 2006. Yasmin is based in our Brighton office and specialises in Employment Law working on behalf of either employees or employers in an ever changing legal environment. Yasmin works in conjunction with the Commercial department on the employee side of mergers and acquisitions. She advises and assists employers on several matters including redundancies, disciplinary, dismissals and general employment issues. Yasmin also drafts service Agreements/Contracts of Employment, Employment Handbooks, Policies and Procedures and Compromise Agreements. She also advises more senior employees and Directors on leaving packages and exits including advising on Compromise Agreements. Yasmin has spoken at several Seminars about constant changes in Employment legislation.

Richard Schaverien – Partner
Richard is a Partner of Howlett Clarke Solicitors and is based in our Brighton office, having been admitted as a Solicitor for more than 20 years.
Richard was trained and accredited by CEDR Solve in 1999. He became a registered CEDR Solve Mediator in December 2001. Richard is accredited and became a panel member of ADR Group in December 2004. Richard specialises in personal injury, general commercial disputes, landlord and tenant, partnership, housing Ombudsman cases, construction/contractual, contractual/sale & supply of goods, professional negligence and banking/financial. Richard's main areas of practice cover: Civil / Commercial litigation, Personal injury, Professional negligence claims. Jackie Gillespie - Partner

Jackie is a Partner and Head of The Personal Injury Department based in the Brighton office. Having started with Howlett Clarke following a weeks’ work experience in 1998 she was offered a legal secretary position followed by a trainee contract. Once qualified Jackie was taken on as an Assistant Solicitor and two years later she was promoted to Associate. Now five years qualified (Sept 07) she was delighted to take up the post of Head of Personal Injury Department in Dec 2006 and being made Partner in April 2007. Jackie has been certified as a member of the Personal Injury Accreditation Scheme by the Solicitors Regulation Authority.

Louise McKay - Solicitor

Louise is an Assistant Solicitor at Howlett Clarke having started as a Trainee with the firm in September 2003. Entering the legal world late on in her career Louise was formerly an RGN within the health service. Louise is keen to raise the profile of the firm and has entered various charity events such as Race for Life and taking part in a Skydive for the charity Headway. Richard Dyson - Senior Partner
Richard is Senior Partner at Howlett Clarke Solicitors following the merger with ACW-Law in 2003. Richard started his career in the legal profession in September 1964 and completed 5 year Articles with Nash Field & Co in Temple. He moved to Brighton in 1969 and has extensive experience dealing with people and their problems in all legal matters. Richard was Senior Partner at Aldrich Crowther & Wood latterly ACW. He specialises in both Private Client (Wills, Trusts and Probate) and Residential Conveyancing and is based at our Brighton office. Richard also is Trustee and Advisor to Sussex Cancer Fund, Trustee of Brighton & Hove Charitable Youth Trust and member of Society Trustee and Estate Practioners (STEP)

John Brewins - Consultant
John is a very experienced Solicitor, having been in private practice since 1974 (and in Brighton since 1976). He joined Aldrich Crowther and Wood in 1983 and has stayed with us following our merger in 2003. In his long and varied career he has done everything from Criminal Work through Divorce and Family work (both legal aid and Private), Civil Litigation and Conveyancing. John has recently accepted a post as a Senior lawyer in our Private Client department, now specialising in Wills, Trusts, Administration of Estates and some Residential Conveyancing.

Simon Rowe – Managing Partner
Simon has recently been appointed Managing Partner of the firm having been with Howlett Clarke since 1983. Simon, who graduated from the University of Sussex, has over twenty years experience in dealing with all aspects of Family Law, and in particular divorce, matrimonial finance and children issues. He is also a member of the Family Law Panel and Resolution (Solicitors Family Law Association). Simon is also one of only a few Collaborative Law specialists in the county.

Sarah Mellish - Partner

Sarah is a Partner at Howlett Clarke having been a solicitor since 1989. She jointly heads up the established and reputable Family Law Department. Sarah is based in our Brighton office and offers mediation on relationship breakdown, including disagreements regarding children, financial, property and trust issues. Sarah is a member of the Law Society's Children Panel and Advanced Member of the Law Society's Family Law Panel; and a Practitioner Member of the Law Society's Family Mediation Panel. She has trained as a mediator with the Solicitors Family Law Association (SFLA, now Resolution First for Family Law). She has been fully recognised by the Legal Services Commission Family Mediation Pilot Project as competent to carry out full mediations under the Family Law Act 1996. Her mediation practice has passed a franchise audit by the Legal Services Commission and she is able therefore to provide publicly funded family mediation. She is an Accredited Family Law Mediator. Sarah is also one of only a few Collaborative Law specialists in the county.

Jane has worked at Howlett Clarke as a Litigation Executive for the last 18 years.
